We are searching for an engaging, passionate, CTE Retention Specialist( Perkins Grant) to help lead our College during this ever-changing Community College environment.
Target start date: 9/1/2025 Employment Type: Non-Exempt Hourly Pay Rate: 16.50 - 17.35 Primary Site Location: Beeville Open Until Filled
This position is contingent upon yearly grant funding and the final approval of the new grant cycle.
Essential Functions:
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Retention Specialist is responsible for supporting the success and completion of students enrolled in CTE programs at Coastal Bend College. This position works collaboratively with CTE faculty, staff, and students to develop and implement effective retention strategies aimed at improving student persistence and graduation rates. The CTE Retention Specialist will foster relationships with faculty, staff, and students to promote engagement, address barriers to completion, and enhance the overall student experience. This role is critical in supporting institutional efforts to increase program completion and ensure students achieve their educational and career goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate and facilitate monthly group and individual orientation sessions for Career and Technical Education (CTE) students. Collaborate with the assessment team to identify potential at-risk CTE students. Develop, coordinate, and deliver programs and services to support student success, retention, and progression, including quarterly college success and readiness workshops. Assist students in developing individualized funding plans, including support with applications for Federal Financial Aid, scholarships, and other institutional funding opportunities. Facilitate quarterly College and Career Preparation workshops to help students explore career pathways and training options. Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to connect students with available resources. Provide one-on-one student support to address educational and personal challenges, including referrals to campus services, such as Cougar Care. Build positive mentoring relationships with students, coaching them on overcoming barriers to academic success. Maintain regular communication with students in person, by phone, and through electronic platforms to provide ongoing support and information. Consult with program directors and coordinators to remain informed of program, certificate, and degree requirements. Assist students in transitioning from certificate programs to associate degree pathways. Develop and implement systems and procedures to support student success, retention, and achievement of grant-specific performance objectives, ensuring compliance with all grant and program requirements. Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and conferences relevant to the role. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of student interactions, progress, and outcomes. Conduct regular student follow-up, data tracking, analysis, and reporting to measure program effectiveness. Participate in professional development activities related to the Perkins Grant and student retention best practices. Serve as the liaison for Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) personnel transitioning into work-life experience certification and college enrollment processes.
Travel Requirements:
Must have own transportation, valid driver's license, and auto insurance to travel to other locations including target area schools, and to attend meetings/trainings.
Environment:
Work is generally performed in an office setting with frequent interruptions and changes in the workflow/volume; in target schools, and/or community locations. May require some outdoor work for CBC and/or Career and Technology Education events.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree required.
