We are partnering with a well-established transportation operation in Piedmont, SC, to hire a Transportation Broker. This position works closely with the transportation team to optimize fleet utilization by reducing empty and out-of-route miles, minimizing downtime, and securing profitable freight through strategic rate negotiations.

The ideal candidate will have a proven background in dispatch, freight brokerage, and carrier relations, with strong negotiation skills and the ability to build lasting partnerships with customers, brokers, and third-party carriers.
This is an on-site position in Piedmont, SC.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, freight brokers, and asset-based logistics providers. Negotiate freight rates using historical data, current market analysis, and profitability targets. Identify empty lanes within the network, prioritize them, and secure consistent backhaul opportunities. Collaborate with internal teams to overcome operational restrictions that may impact backhaul execution. Select quality backhauls and third-party carriers based on business requirements and vetting processes (MC verification, compliance checks). Post available equipment on load boards to proactively source freight in target markets. Serve as the single point of contact for contracted backhaul customers and third-party carriers to ensure smooth communication and resolve issues. Monitor idle capacity and uncover additional revenue opportunities through creative problem-solving.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and customer service skills. High sense of urgency with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and load board/TMS platforms (e.g., DAT, Carrier411). Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR). Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications: Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a dispatcher and/or broker within a logistics or transportation company. Demonstrated success negotiating rates and securing profitable freight. Experience identifying backhaul opportunities and maximizing fleet capacity. Familiarity with freight posting tools, carrier vetting, and compliance processes. Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions.
