Assistant Plant Manager Job Description

Job Summary: The Assistant Plant Manager will assist the Plant Manager in leading day-to-day activities in all phases of the aggregate operations process, including compliance with safety and environmental regulations, site planning and development, quality control, and maintenance.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Assists with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training new staff. Assists with overseeing the daily workflow of the site. Assists with providing constructive and timely employee performance evaluations. Assists with handling discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Follows all company safety and environmental policies and MSHA, FRA, EPA, DOT, and SDDANR. Communicate effectively with all team members. Build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers. Provide strong leadership, training, coaching and team building to all team members to help support the operational functions. Assist in planning the daily operations schedule to ensure optimal utilization of plant equipment, personnel, and inventory. Work in coordination with the Plant Manager and Sales Team to determine required inventory and production demands. Direct and supervise production activities from drilling, and blasting to Quality Control of finished product. Analyze production and quality control to ensure quality products are received by the customer. Assist the plant manager in managing the plant’s financials but ensuring adherence to all budgets and financial goals. Identify improvement activities to help reduce costs and improve operating efficiency across the plant. Develop and review key performance reports to ensure optimal plant performance by analyzing metrics and developing best practices. Audit and monitor preventative maintenance programs to limit work stoppage, downtime, or other disruptions in the plant equipment and rolling stock. Inspect and oversee repairs of plant equipment and rolling stock. Daily site inspections for safety and production performance. All other duties assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities: Excellent communication/interpersonal skills. Must be able to provide strong leadership and mentorship to team members, both direct and indirect reports. Excellent problem-solving skills. Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of rock mining, MSHA regulations and QC systems. Must be mechanically inclined and have the ability to read and understand plant drawings and schematics. Experience in drilling, blasting and inventory control. Keen attention to detail. Good work attendance is a must. Ability to work safely in a team environment. Valid Commercial Driver’s license (class A) is preferred but not required.

Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED. Relevant technical school education is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, squat, bend, walk for long durations. Able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate loud noises. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
