We’re partnered with an established electrical systems integrator based in San Antonio that has built a strong reputation for delivering engineered, reliable, and cost-effective control systems for industrial and commercial applications. With decades of experience in low and medium voltage systems, they specialize in solutions involving motor control panels, variable speed drives, PLC/DCS integration, and power distribution.
Position Overview: The
Controls Engineer
will be responsible for designing high-performance motor control systems, ranging from basic motor starting panels to complex automation and monitoring setups. This is a hands-on engineering role involving electrical and mechanical interpretation of P&IDs, schematics, and control narratives.
Key Responsibilities: Design both power and control logic circuits Develop mechanical layouts for control panels Select and size components, wiring, and overcurrent protection Calculate heat load and determine enclosure cooling requirements Create bill of materials (BOMs) Research emerging control technologies and evaluate supplier options Provide technical and field support as needed Collaborate with sales and support project design during pre-sales Train and assist wiring technicians during assembly Support system testing and final QA when required
Ideal Candidate Profile: Strong understanding of motor controls, industrial automation, and power systems Ability to read and translate P&ID diagrams and process control narratives Experience in designing UL-rated control panels and electrical schematics Comfortable working cross-functionally with sales, field service, and technicians Passion for quality, detail, and delivering customer-focused solutions
