Job Title: Controls Engineer

We’re partnered with an established electrical systems integrator based in San Antonio that has built a strong reputation for delivering engineered, reliable, and cost-effective control systems for industrial and commercial applications. With decades of experience in low and medium voltage systems, they specialize in solutions involving motor control panels, variable speed drives, PLC/DCS integration, and power distribution.
Position Overview:
The Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing high-performance motor control systems, ranging from basic motor starting panels to complex automation and monitoring setups. This is a hands-on engineering role involving electrical and mechanical interpretation of P&IDs, schematics, and control narratives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design both power and control logic circuits
- Develop mechanical layouts for control panels
- Select and size components, wiring, and overcurrent protection
- Calculate heat load and determine enclosure cooling requirements
- Create bill of materials (BOMs)
- Research emerging control technologies and evaluate supplier options
- Provide technical and field support as needed
- Collaborate with sales and support project design during pre-sales
- Train and assist wiring technicians during assembly
- Support system testing and final QA when required
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Strong understanding of motor controls, industrial automation, and power systems
- Ability to read and translate P&ID diagrams and process control narratives
- Experience in designing UL-rated control panels and electrical schematics
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with sales, field service, and technicians
- Passion for quality, detail, and delivering customer-focused solutions
