Summary Under the direction of the Director, Special Education, and under the direction and monitoring supervision of the speech pathologist(s), assists in providing instruction specific to the area of speech and language communication to students identified as having special needs; monitors the use of augmentative communication devices and systems; does related work as required.
Representative Duties MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides direct therapy and follows documented treatment plans or protocols designed by the designated speech pathologist; Assists instructional personnel in the implementation of Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs); Works directly with students, either individually or in small groups reinforcing established therapy goals utilizing repetitive drill exercises and practicing generalization/carryover skills; Documents student performance such as tallying data; prepares charts, records; graphs and reports information; Supports the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist in research projects and in-service training programs and/or family or community education; Assists with clerical duties, such as record keeping, materials preparation, scheduling; Exhibits compliance with state and federal regulations; May be required to provide services and to give and receive information in a second language in addition to English; Position may require employees to drive to multiple school sites; Perform other related duties as assigned. An Associate's degree in a state-approved speech-language pathology assistant training program, or a Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders/Speech Language Pathology. Experience:
One year of paid experience working with children in a structured organizational environment.
License and Certification Must possess a valid California license as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant granted by the California Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology & Hearing Aid Dispensers Board.
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license. Possession of an appropriate, valid California driver's license prior to the completion of the probationary period. Ability to be covered under the District property/liability insurance. Employment Standards

Examination The examination component consists of a qualifying multiple-choice and oral (interview) exam. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be required to take the exam and are notified via email communication of the scheduled date, time, and location. A valid picture identification is required prior to admittance.
After the exam procedure concludes for this recruitment, an eligibility list will be established to fill future vacancies. When eligibility lists include open and promotional lists of qualified persons through competitive examination, the promotional list will be used first, unless otherwise stated on this bulletin.
Work Schedule: This position works part-time at six and one-half hours (6.5) per day, and observes a 182-day work calendar.
Salary The salary rate for a new employee is at the first step of the appropriate five-step salary schedule for this position. The probationary period is 130 work days (not counting sick, industrial accident). Upon becoming permanent, a one-step salary advance shall be granted with future annual advances up to the fifth step of the salary schedule.
Holidays and Leaves Seventeen (17) paid holidays that fall within the work year, pursuant to the District's Collective Bargaining Agreement with California Schools Employees Association Chapter 296 (CSEA).
Sick leave shall be granted in the proportion of daily hours worked. Vacation is earned at the prescribed rate as part of compensation, and does not become vested until after completion of the initial probationary period.
WORKING CONDITIONS Work is usually performed in a classroom environment, learning center and in direct contact with students, in direct contact with other staff and the public, with exposure to minor contagious illnesses, with high volume of work and tight deadlines. Incumbent occasionally is exposed to the normal risks and hazards of operating computer-related equipment office.
Optional Second Language Requirement: Some positions in this classification may require the ability to speak, read and write a second language in addition to English.
