The Family Advocate II provides services to increase parent involvement in their child's education and provides support to staff in their work with children and families to help meet identified needs and goals. Advocate II develops, coordinates, and implements various programs and activities related to the needs of the children and families served by the program. The contribution of the Family Advocate II supports program goals and objectives in the component areas of health, education, parent involvement, and social service referrals. Plan, prioritize, and provide services including family intake, needs assessments, outreach, referrals, follow-ups, and other related case management services. Maintain records and develop reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness. May assist with the preparation of monthly reports. Work with families to identify pertinent issues. Conduct family needs assessments. Provide parents with community resource information and referrals. Conduct home/school visits with families. Organize and supervise parent/child/teacher/community involvement activities. Write, monitor, and report grant information. Ensure the terms of the grants are being followed. Complete data entry and tracking of all client contact and services provided. Support and maintain the goals and objectives of the Family Resource Center. Assist with the upkeep of case management database system and preparing database reports. Responsible for the training of new staff and mentoring of student interns. Provide students and their families with opportunities to access preventative health and human services. Collaborate with community agencies to ensure that needed services and activities are available to clients. Serve as a coordinator of the various services that clients are receiving. Participate as a member of the planning team to create appropriate programs for children and their families. Works with students and families to improve attendance and academic performance. Serve as a case manager for families of children who attend programs offered by the Family Resource Center Function as a liaison between school, community health and service agencies. May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that could provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and skills would be:

Education: Associate's degree with major coursework in social work, education, child development, or related field preferred.

Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible office or clerical experience and experience working with children and families is required. Experience in an educational or social service field working with children and families is preferred.

Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Nevada driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the District.

Sch A: $18.05 (entry step)

Sch B: $21.40 (entry step)

Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year.

Additional Job Information

This is a 40 hour per week, One Year Only position ending June 2026. Applicant must have strong interpersonal skills which includes being positive, patient and the ability to work well with children and adults. Bilingual skills in Spanish are also desired.

Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive benefits.

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
