• Collections Investigator I
Collections Investigator Trainee positions collect the City's delinquent account receivables; negotiate and arrange payment schedules; identify debtor assets for attachment, and refer for litigation; gather and verify documentation to establish proof of debt for presentation in court; locate missing debtors using skip tracing techniques; investigate disputed claims on delinquent bills; input and retrieve account information using a computer system; maintain records; and perform other duties as assigned.
NOTE: Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS). You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
EXPERIENCE : One year of full-time experience performing clerical or public contact work in a government agency, financial institution, law office, or collection agency. Qualifying experience MUST include at least one of the following: Dispute resolution including researching and resolving billing problems. Public contact experience via phone or in person providing customer service. Accessing computer databases for the purpose of researching and gathering information. NOTES:
Personal computer use is NOT qualifying. Computer research MUST have been performed for an employer as a job function. City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours.
