Purpose and Scope SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Manager of Public Relations will oversee and implement communication strategies to promote a positive image and foster strong relationships between Memphis-Shelby County Schools and its stakeholders, including students, parents, staff, community members, and the media. This role is vital in developing the district’s public relations strategy, media relations, internal communications, social media presence, and crisis communications. Essential Job Functions This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this classification but reflects the primary job elements. Manage and implement effective communication strategies to support District initiatives in collaboration with fellow Communications leaders. Support internal communications by developing systems and strategies to strengthen communication channels and processes. Assist school and District leaders with communication responses to crisis situations impacting perception and reputation. Manage internal communications to ensure staff, students, and parents are well-informed about district policies, programs, and events. Track and analyze the effectiveness of public relations efforts, providing regular reports and recommending improvements. Plan, curate, write, and edit content for various communication mediums, including newsletters, notifications, websites, print/digital materials, messages, scripts, etc. Coordinate with school staff and community partners to ensure effective event communication and execution. Oversee the "Central Office PROs" program to enhance communication skills and ensure adherence to branding standards and best practices across departments. Develop and execute social media strategies to engage audiences, build brand awareness, and maintain a positive online presence, including content creation, posting, and interaction on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Perform other related duties as assigned or directed. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field plus five (5) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination totaling nine (9) years of education and experience. Strong oral proficiency in English is required; proficiency in another language is preferred.

= 4 years of education plus required experience. Master’s Degree

= 6 years of education plus required experience.
