The Design Director is a pivotal leader within the firm, responsible for translating the Principal Designer's vision into exceptional client outcomes. This role requires a proactive approach to managing all facets of the design process, including serving as the primary lead on client communications, overseeing and mentoring the design team, and driving the development and execution of all FF&E selections. The Design Director will be instrumental in ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the firm's exacting standards.
Key Qualifications
6+ years experience working at a high end interior design firm in NEW YORK
Professional experience managing a team, vendor coordination, project schedules, etc.
Highly skilled in AutoCAD, studio designer, and Adobe Suite (InDesign and Photoshop)
Strong and thorough interior architectural drawing skills
A great eye with a strong understanding of high-end design
Thorough understanding of luxury vendors and furniture producers
Strong graphic presentation skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Well organized and able implement systems within the office to ensure effective management of projects
Honest; with high personal values and ethics
Comfortable stepping up and taking action when needs arise; decision-maker
Has demonstrated a high level of professional integrity by taking pride, ownership and responsibility for own work as well as team member’s work. Has set high expectations, for self and team and pushes to achieve them.
Maintains a positive, open ‘can do attitude’ to staff, team and client, acting in a friendly and helpful manner while utilizing “great customer service skills'
Roles and responsibilities Consistently bring fresh ideas to the team that are project appropriate
Maintain a daily task list for assigned projects discussing time allotments, schedules, and delegations
Assist project teams to ensure delays are adequately documented.
Direct and lead intermediate designer under your purview
Create preliminary floor plans, furniture plans, mood boards and budgets for new potential clients
Using InDesign to create client presentations
Attend and lead client presentations
Develop floor plans and furniture plans in CAD
Assemble construction documentation set (demo plans, floor plans, RCPs, lighting plans, furniture plans, elevations, and details)
Select plumbing, appliances, equipment, lighting and finish specifications. Input all information in schedule and specification packages
Attend and contribute to weekly coordination calls with contractors, architects, and installers
Source FF&E: furniture, window treatments, fabrics, wall treatments, lighting, carpeting, art accessories
Create custom furniture drawings for vendors, visit workrooms to check in on custom pieces, and review shop drawings.
Job site management throughout the construction process including electrical coordination, finish materials, and site surveys
Demonstrate a highly organized and systematic approach to producing a project.
Understand the necessity to keep team and project tasks lists updated and complete.
Demonstrate a high degree of time management skill and constantly seek to streamline processes and procedures to increase quality and efficiency.
