The New Programs Engineering team works at the front-end of vehicle design and development, in an iterative environment to study, simulate, build, and prove Tesla’s future generation of vehicles. This position involves interaction with cross-functional teams from Design, Vehicle Engineering, and Powertrain Engineering to create prototypes for engineering development. It requires product design expertise and a fundamental, first principles approach to problem solving, rather than extensive project engineering or automotive industry experience. What You'll Do
Ownership of harness designs for prototype and early phase vehicle programs, including electrical schematics, BOM, harness drawings, and system diagrams. Taking design from concept through prototype vehicle build. Document build/rework instructions for complex vehicle wire harnesses. Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate new electrical subsystems into prototypes. Support firmware and technician teams in debugging and bringing up electrical systems in prototypes. Design PCB hardware to support electrical subsystem integration. What You'll Bring
Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience. At least 2 years of experience in a product development environment. Expertise in automotive communication networks (CAN, LIN, Ethernet). Wire harness design and build experience, including knowledge of tools, materials, and best practices. Fundamental understanding of PCB design, with experience using PCB design software and circuit simulation tools like Altium and LTspice. Knowledge of designing for environmental constraints (temperature, humidity, vibration), regulatory compliance, and product debugging (EMC/EMI, ESD, transients). Ability to handle multiple priorities, organize workloads, and meet tight deadlines. Detail-oriented with effective documentation and reporting skills. Excellent communication, resourcefulness, and time management skills. Benefits
