Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
  • Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA-accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Gastroenterology
  • Preferred experience in GI endoscopy procedures including EGD and colonoscopy
  • Physical and environmental requirements as specified, including medical examination

Duties

Major duties include supervising and mentoring GI fellows and residents, managing diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterological services, performing endoscopic procedures (including bleeding control, polypectomy, EMR, PEGs, and dilation), collaborating with healthcare professionals, and engaging in clinical/research activities. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
