Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency must be approved by the VA or recognized accrediting bodies.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and only appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical Requirements: Must meet physical standards, including a pre-placement physical exam, and be able to perform duties such as lifting, pushing, reaching, and standing. Must meet drug testing requirements and have adequate vision and hearing.

Duties

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient primary care for adult patients at community-based outpatient clinics.
  • Use the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model of care delivery.
  • Contribute to clinical outcome targets related to access, quality, efficiency, and patient satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with non-VA providers for smooth patient care transitions.
  • Complete clinical reminders, prescribe medications, and enter consults via electronic medical records.
  • Adhere to professional standards and VHA standards for timeliness and quality of documentation.
  • Additional duties include providing Employee Health services, assisting with Environmental Agents Registry exams, and other clinical responsibilities as assigned.
