Job Description
The position serves as a leader, motivator, and expert in the successful operation of all areas of Production and Sales across various departments:
- Non-Perishable: grocery, dairy, frozen foods, healthy living, bulk foods, gift baskets
- Perishable: produce, meat market, seafood market, floral
- Food Service: kitchen, cafe, prepared foods, cooking school, bakery, deli, cheese departments
This role is responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction, partner engagement, and achievement of company objectives, reporting directly to the General Manager.
Responsibilities
- Make employment-related and business decisions using independent judgment, including strategies for products and departments, hiring, promoting, disciplining, and partner relations
- Oversee multiple departments, including merchandising, product mix, and costs, via department managers
- Direct, coordinate, and evaluate departmental operations
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company standards regarding product freshness, safety, refrigeration, and sanitation
- Supervise daily management of departments and merchandising efforts
- Maintain vendor relations and communicate expectations clearly
- Conduct employment interviews, performance appraisals, and gather partner feedback
- Train and develop partners to enhance team performance
- Provide exceptional customer service
Requirements
- Strong supervisory and management skills across all departments
- Long-term strategic and financial planning abilities
- Bachelor's degree, with 1-2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proficiency with automated reporting systems (inventory, food cost, scheduling, time & attendance, labor)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to innovate and champion new initiatives
- Valuing diversity and handling stressful situations effectively
- Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills
- Ability to prioritize, delegate, and develop teams
