Job Description

CD PROJEKT RED is seeking an Engineering Director to join our Boston office and lead the gameplay systems of Cyberpunk 2.

In this role, you will collaborate with the team to push the boundaries of immersive gaming in the Cyberpunk universe, crafting emotional, open-world experiences that leave a lasting impact on players. As an Engineering Director, you will leverage your leadership and technical expertise to shape gameplay systems, foster innovation, and deliver memorable gaming experiences.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Establish and oversee the architecture and technical strategy for gameplay features and systems.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineering managers and engineers, promoting collaboration and innovation.
  • Develop strategic plans for resource allocation, project timelines, and technology roadmaps for the gameplay teams.
  • Collaborate with art, animation, design, and engineering teams to align gameplay features with the creative vision.
  • Maintain high standards for clean, efficient C++ code, emphasizing optimization, readability, and maintainability.
  • Ensure thorough documentation to facilitate onboarding and cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues to ensure character systems contribute to a polished, high-performance product.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, bringing innovative ideas to the team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in the games industry.
  • Experience developing AAA titles for consoles, including debugging and profiling in console environments.
  • Proven leadership in managing teams.
  • Strong knowledge of Unreal Engine 5, especially gameplay-related features and systems.
  • Hands-on experience with gameplay features and systems implementation.
  • Experience with Abilities Systems, NPCs, and crowd management.
  • Knowledge of removing gameplay systems from the Main Thread.
  • Deep understanding of modern game architecture and C++ programming.
  • Strong math and algorithmic skills.
  • Practical knowledge of code parallelization.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments is a plus.
  • Focused on delivering high-quality results.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
