Job Description
Under general supervision, employee is responsible for operating a fuel truck and fueling vehicles on an assigned route, and inspecting/replacing vehicle tires as needed. Employee performs duties in the operation, repair, and maintenance of vehicles in the school transportation department.
Responsibilities
- Maintain positive attitude and work in a team environment
- Provide own set of tools to perform daily duties
- Fuel buses and school owned vehicles
- Checks, adds, and replaces engine oil, vehicle fluids, and filters
- Lubricates moving parts of vehicle chassis
- Performs preventive maintenance work on buses and vehicles
- Changes and balances tires/ wheel assemblies
- Replaces and repairs brake linings, assemblies, batteries, hoses, electrical components, lights, seat covers, and defective vehicle components
- Performs limited troubleshooting and diagnostics of electrical/mechanical problems
- Assists with 30 day inspections on buses
- Maintains garage area and grounds in a clean, safe, and orderly condition
- Completes work orders and required paperwork in compliance with state guidelines
- Answers phone calls and responds to vehicle breakdowns / emergencies
- Assists with maintaining parts inventory
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate power tools and mechanical equipment. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 25 pounds of force frequently. Must be able to move relatively heavy objects and perform manual labor for extended periods. Physical demand requirements are for medium to heavy work. Must be able to complete tasks in inclement weather.

- Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and signal people to convey or exchange information.
- Language Ability: Requires the ability to read and complete forms.
- Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information to explain procedures and to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.
- Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add, subtract, divide, and multiply.
- Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
- Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using tools.
- Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as equipment. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
- Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress.
- Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk and hear.
- High School Diploma.
- Prefer work experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment or related field.
- Class B CDL with P, S, and N endorsements (Must obtain within 60 days of hire date).
