The Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) is seeking a skilled candidate for the Administrative Specialist II position located within the King County Correctional Facility. The Administrative Specialist II will coordinate the book exchange program for jail residents. Its also responsible for a wide variety of administrative clerical duties for coordinating resident programming, while providing exceptional customer service delivery and support to resident program staff within the jail. The incumbent will have regular, direct contact with residents, detainees and defendants, Correctional Officers, and the public.
The Resident Services work group within the Seattle and Kent Division detention facilities is responsible for overseeing the volunteer and contracted programs which are designed to provide skill building opportunities while connecting participants to agency representatives for coordination of reentry stabilization services.

Job Duties
JOB DUTIES: The job description is an overview and is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not an exhaustive list of all the functions and tasks required of this position.
- Manage the Book Exchange Program, including inventory management, ordering, tracking, and organization.
- Deliver books to jail residents at King County Correctional Facility.
- Process timekeeping requests.
- Perform clerical duties in a secured facility, such as:
- Greeting and directing volunteers and contracted professionals
- Answering and routing calls
- Providing professional and courteous customer service
- Handle general clerical tasks, including:
- Opening, stamping, and distributing incoming mail
- Composing correspondence and memorandums
- Data entry and retrieval
- Filing, photocopying, and using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Sort and distribute jail resident kites (requests) to appropriate program mailboxes.
- Respond to general resident inquiries with accurate and timely information.
- Maintain program records and assist with tracking and retrieving information as needed.
- Assist with the distribution and tracking of resident eyeglasses.
- Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility.
- Two (2) years full time office work experience which includes one (1) year of experience work in high quantity/high volume customer service environment.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel, use of general office equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.
- Experience in the criminal justice and/or corrections field.
- Background in organizational work related to library services.
- Prior experience working in a library environment.
WORK LOCATION/SCHEDULE: Employees will work onsite in a secure jail environment at the King County Correctional Facility, located at 500 5th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104. This position will work a 40-hour workweek and is overtime-eligible. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Schedule assignments are subject to the staffing needs of the department and bargaining unit bidding process as applicable.
UNION MEMBERSHIP: This position is represented by Washington State Council of County and City Employees, Local 21-AD DAJD bargaining unit.
