Job Description
- Lead comprehensive reviews of leveraged finance transactions, including LBOs, recapitalizations, dividend deals, and covenant-lite structures.
- Evaluate borrower creditworthiness, capital structure, cash flow sustainability, and sponsor strength.
- Assess risk rating accuracy, underwriting rigor, and adherence to internal policies and regulatory guidance (e.g., Interagency Guidance on Leveraged Lending).
- Analyze transaction terms, covenant packages, collateral coverage, and exit strategies.
- Identify emerging risks related to sector trends, macroeconomic shifts, and sponsor behavior.
- Prepare detailed review reports with findings, recommendations, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Present results to senior management, credit committees, and regulators as needed.
- Collaborate with leveraged finance originators, credit officers, and portfolio managers to validate risk assessments and promote sound credit practices.
- Monitor market developments, deal structures, and rating agency trends across leveraged credit.
- Contribute to the refinement of the credit review methodology for leveraged lending, including sampling, scoring, and reporting frameworks.
The Successful Applicant
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics; MBA, CFA, or CPA preferred.
- 12+ years of experience in leveraged finance credit risk, underwriting, or credit review within a major commercial or investment bank.
- Deep understanding of leveraged lending structures, sponsor dynamics, and market conventions.
- Familiarity with regulatory expectations and leveraged lending guidance from OCC, FRB, and FDIC.
- Strong financial modeling and credit analysis skills, including cash flow forecasting and debt capacity assessment.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex findings to senior stakeholders.
- Experience with credit systems and platforms (e.g., Moody's, S&P, Dealogic, or similar).
- Proven ability to lead reviews independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
