The Louisiana Supreme Court invites highly qualified applicants to apply for the position of Judicial Administrator , the highest-ranking non-judicial officer of the state judiciary. This position works under the general direction of the Chief Justice and Associate Justices and serves at the pleasure of the Court. The Judicial Administrator's office is the managerial arm of the Louisiana Supreme Court and is the staffing and fiscal agent for several court departments and programs, the Judicial Council, and court-appointed task forces and committees.
Salary Range: $170,000 to $182,000
Position Overview:
The Judicial Administrator is responsible for the overall planning, direction, and supervision of administrative functions for the Louisiana Supreme Court and the broader state judiciary. The Administrator also provides direct support to the Justices in executing their constitutional duties related to court system administration. This is a full-time, executive-level position based in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership and executive oversight of the Administrative Offices of the Courts.
  • Serve as Chief Executive Officer of the state judicial disciplinary body-Judiciary Commission.
  • Assists in training newly elected judges in administrative functions and court operations.
  • Advise judges on handling complex operational challenges such as ethics issues and court administration.
  • Direct financial management functions, including:
    • Oversight of appropriated funds for the Office of the Judicial Administrator.
    • Payroll administration for all state judges.
  • Supervise all divisions within the Administrative Offices of the Court, including ten Deputy Judicial Administrators as direct reports and their staff members.
  • Respond to requests from the Legislature and information requests from the public.
  • Provide staffing support to numerous court committees, task forces, etc.
  • Serve as a key member of the Human Resources Committee overseeing personnel policies for the state appellate court system.
  • Present Continuing Legal Education at judicial conferences as needed.
  • Serves as contact person at Louisiana Supreme Court for state judges.
  • Other responsibilities incumbent upon operating the Office of the Judicial Administrator, or as requested by the Justices of the Louisiana Supreme Court.
Qualifications:
  • A Juris Doctor (JD) or doctoral degree and at least eight years of experience in judicial administration is preferred.
  • Alternatively, a master's degree in judicial administration, public administration, law, or a related field and at least ten years of experience in judicial administration.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written and communication skills, as well as a working knowledge of the Louisiana Judicial system.
Additional Information:
  • Position requires on-site office presence.
  • Must be able to travel within the state and nationally to conferences as needed.
  • Executive Parking in the LA Supreme Court Building.
