Position Description: Clinical Veterinarian Herd Health for Non-Human Primates

Location: Temperate South Texas

Key Responsibilities:


- Provide comprehensive medical and surgical care for laboratory animals, ensuring humane veterinary support.

- Conduct physical, ophthalmic, and other necessary exams on laboratory animals.

- Offer expertise in animal health, biology, physiology, and research methodology to staff scientists and technicians, providing training as needed.

- Assist the site supervisor in ensuring compliance with policies and practices related to animal care and welfare.

- Report and resolve all animal care concerns promptly.

- Work within the business operations of import, export, and quarantine of an animal supplier.

- Engage in the breeding colony, overseeing primates at various life stages, including neonatal, juvenile, pregnancy, weaning, pairing, and behavioral enrichment.

- Perform procedures such as C-sections, ultrasounds, nutritional monitoring, dystocia management, and routine health exams for a large population.


Ideal Candidate Will Have:


- Clinical experience (training provided for the right candidate).

- Experience with non-human primates is desirable but not required; however, a desire to work with NHPs is essential.

- Active DEA registration.

- Ability to obtain a Texas DVM license within 30 days of the offer.

- Willingness to work with laboratory animals in a research/laboratory setting.

- Excellent communication skills, a focus on compliance, and a commitment to animal health and welfare.
