Title : Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Near Lemont, IL
Job Type: 3-6 month contract, potential for direct hire conversion

Sterling Engineering is partnered with a global leader in motion control and power transmission solutions to hire a Manufacturing Engineer near Lemont, IL. This role focuses on driving cost reduction through process improvement while ensuring compliance with AS9100 and NADCAP standards.
Job Duties:
- Apply core mechanical engineering principles (Statics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Mechanical Design, Materials, and Heat Transfer) to make decisions impacting quality, delivery, and cost
- Drive cost-reduction initiatives through process improvements and waste elimination
- Lead and participate in root cause analysis and corrective action to reduce non-conformances
- Design ergonomic and efficient workstations and tooling to optimize productivity
- Stay current with emerging manufacturing technologies and recommend improvements
- Lead and support Kaizen events aligned with Value Stream Mapping (VSM) roadmaps
- Use Regal Business System (RBS) tools to drive continuous improvement and seek facilitator certifications
- Develop and implement lean manufacturing action plans to support business growth
- Use DMAIC and other problem-solving tools to resolve work issues
- Support cost-out projects in manufacturing and assembly areas
- Provide hands-on support with setup, tooling, fixture selection, and troubleshooting
- Support special processes including heat treatment, plating, and welding
- Create and maintain process routings and setup instructions for parts and assemblies
Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. Person per federal export control laws (citizen, national, permanent resident, or asylee/refugee)
- BS in Engineering or related technical field required
- 3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing plant environment
- Experience with grinding, turning, and milling preferred (minimum 1 year)
- Strong foundation in core mechanical/manufacturing engineering principles
- Proficiency in extracting and analyzing data to inform business decisions
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt is a plus
- Skilled in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Demonstrated project management capability
- Strong team orientation with ability to influence cross-functional teams
- Experience with high-speed mechanical seals and mating rings is a plus
