Job Description Summary

This individual is the primary liaison for families and internal staff seeking cost estimation quotes related to a patients benefit plan, directly securing volume and revenue. They provide onsite or over-the-phone financial counseling for patients and families, facilitate and authorize the MUSC Hospital Charity Care policy. The candidate should have extensive knowledge of the organizations charge masters and be able to communicate price estimates by service, including applicable discounts, in a professional, family-friendly atmosphere. Acts as the central point of contact for internal UMA & MUHA teams to address patient pricing questions, leveraging various systems, tools, and resources to ensure an optimal patient financial experience.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist scheduled patients in locating billable insurance coverage, screening for Medicaid eligibility, SSA disability, and charity applications. Notify patients of copayments/deductibles/deposits prior to services and collect when applicable. Provide estimations using Epic's fee estimation tool. Assist with Financial Assistance Program applications. Obtain and record accurate patient data. Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, informing patients about programs like FAP and COBRA. Collaborate with internal and external partners professionally. Understand and interpret credit bureau data. Communicate effectively in formal and informal settings.
  2. Work assigned accounts in Epic, meeting departmental metrics.
  3. Ensure compliance with all MUSC Health policies and procedures.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Requirements

High school diploma with two years of customer service/collections experience, or a bachelors degree with one year of experience. Knowledge of medical terminology and health insurance is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; Epic knowledge is a plus. Punctuality, dependability, excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and professionalism are required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach, perform repetitive motions, and lift objects up to 20 lbs. Corrected vision of 20/40. Work indoors in a latex-safe environment. Ability to work in dusty or confined spaces occasionally.
