Responsibilities
We have an opportunity for an Underwriter to join our Berkley Asset Protection team! You will be responsible for transactional underwriting and functions associated with underwriting risks on behalf of Berkley Asset Protection, with a focus in the jewelry space. If you bring a solid underwriting foundation, we are open to train you in the jewelery block business.
This position can be based in our offices in either: New York, NY (Manhattan); Appleton, WI; or West Hartford, CT. We are in the office 4 days a week, and 1 day remote.

Key Functions Include But Are Not Limited To
- Manage book of business as it grows ensuring high quality and profitability of business
- Review and approve new business, endorsements and renewals that fall within underwriting authority and company guidelines; refer risks that fall outside authority or guidelines
- Review risk management reports to identify and recommend risk management solutions and requirements
- Provide pro-active quote coaching for agents on new business submissions; align and convert referred accounts to new business
- Recommend service and risk management solutions at new line and other points of the underwriting transaction with agent/broker
- Anticipate insured and agent needs and find service solutions
- Collaborate with Distribution, Marketing and Customer Service colleagues to ensure alignment and a consistent customer experience
- Work closely with management to implement new innovative solutions to workflow and processing
- 10-25% nationwide travel
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
- 3+ years underwriting experience; will train in jewelery block
- Strong oral and written communication skills, displaying a positive attitude
- Detail orientation with initiative and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work with team members at all levels of the organization
- Ability to travel, as needed

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees including:
- Base Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000
- Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus
- Benefits include: Health, dental, vision, dental, life, disability, wellness, paid time off, 401(k) and profit-sharing plans
