Responsibilities

We have an opportunity for an Underwriter to join our Berkley Asset Protection team! You will be responsible for transactional underwriting and functions related to underwriting risks on behalf of Berkley Asset Protection, focusing on the jewelry space. If you have a solid underwriting foundation, we are open to training you in the jewelry block business.

This position can be based in our offices in New York, NY (Manhattan); Appleton, WI; or West Hartford, CT. We are in the office 4 days a week, with 1 day remote.

Key functions include but are not limited to:
  1. Manage a growing book of business, ensuring high quality and profitability
  2. Review and approve new business, endorsements, and renewals within underwriting authority and guidelines; refer risks outside authority or guidelines
  3. Review risk management reports to identify and recommend solutions
  4. Provide proactive quote coaching for agents on new submissions; convert referred accounts to new business
  5. Recommend service and risk management solutions during underwriting transactions
  6. Anticipate insured and agent needs and find service solutions
  7. Collaborate with Distribution, Marketing, and Customer Service teams for a consistent customer experience
  8. Work with management to implement innovative workflow and processing solutions
  9. Travel nationwide 10-25%
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years underwriting experience; training provided in jewelry block
  • Strong communication skills, positive attitude
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, able to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills across all organizational levels
  • Ability to travel as needed

  • Base Salary: $85,000 - $95,000
  • Eligible for annual discretionary bonus
  • Benefits: Health, dental, vision, life, disability, wellness, paid time off, 401(k), profit-sharing

The actual salary depends on factors such as role scope, skills, education, and experience.
