Position Summary

The Pharmacist Intern supports pharmacy operations under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience with medication dispensing, patient counseling, and pharmacy workflow in a community health setting. The intern will gain exposure to clinical programs, patient communication, inventory management, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Assist pharmacists in dispensing prescriptions accurately and efficiently

Provide courteous and professional customer service to patients and caregivers

Support patient outreach initiatives such as medication adherence and immunization clinics

Participate in medication therapy management (MTM) and other clinical services as applicable

Maintain accurate records and documentation according to state and federal regulations

Assist with inventory management including ordering, restocking, and checking for expired medications

Learn and adhere to Commonshare’s quality and compliance procedures

Ad-hoc projects as Assigned by PIC

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program

Possess or eligible for a Virginia Pharmacy Intern License

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance

Ability to work effectively in a team and adapt in a dynamic environment

Interest in community pharmacy and patient-centered care

Preferred Skills

Bilingual in English and Spanish (a plus)

Previous experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting

CPR Certification

Immunization certificate

Familiarity with pharmacy management systems (e.g., PioneerRx, QS1, or similar)

Working Conditions

Standing for extended periods

Interacting with patients, healthcare providers, and team members

Shifts may include evenings or weekends depending on site hours
