Director of Career Development

in the College of Communication and Information (CCI). This role involves leading, developing, and managing the Professional Development function within the Academic Affairs and Student Success unit for CCI. The director will supervise a Director for Career Development and coordinate with the Professional Development Series Instructor. Collaboration with team members, especially the Director of Recruitment and Student Engagement, is essential. The director will serve as the primary liaison to the Center for Career Development and Academic Exploration, working closely to ensure a seamless student experience. Responsibilities include creating opportunities for students to explore careers, gain experiences, and enhance skills through various programs, events, workshops, and outreach activities. The role also involves engaging with alumni and industry partners to establish employment and graduate school relationships, driving marketing strategies, and analyzing career outcomes and program effectiveness. Additionally, the director will lead the Professional Development Series initiative and support faculty and staff goals related to professional development and experiential learning. Responsibilities Serve as the primary contact for industry partners seeking to hire CCI students for jobs, internships, or other experiences. Develop marketing strategies in collaboration with alumni and industry partners to enhance their on-campus presence and facilitate recruiting engagements. Coordinate with relevant departments to promote employment opportunities and experiences. Establish goals with college leadership and external partners to build relationships with employers and increase recruitment opportunities. Secure participation from employers and alumni in programs and events. Visit employers locally and regionally to cultivate relationships. Develop and implement a comprehensive career development strategy aligned with the college's mission. Oversee the design and delivery of the college-wide professional development series. Train and direct professional development instructors on program objectives and content. Expand professional development initiatives for CCI students. Assess program objectives and outcomes for continuous improvement. Partner with academic advisors to develop new initiatives addressing career needs. Provide leadership and operational oversight of programs, services, and staff involved in professional development and experiential initiatives. Manage departmental budget and strategic planning. Offer one-on-one career coaching to students. Develop content strategies for career coaching resources. Deliver guest lectures and career development content across college platforms. Conduct individual and group career coaching sessions covering exploration, application materials, and portfolio development. Design workshops and seminars to engage students effectively. Utilize platforms like Handshake for communication, marketing, and maintaining coaching records. Oversee the operation of CCI's Virtual Career Center platform. Implement assessment plans to measure program impact. Track internship and career outcomes using systems like 12Twenty. Create reports to communicate the office's impact, including impact books for donors. Plan and participate in industry networking trips, conferences, and career fairs, collaborating with college units for logistics. Provide data for accreditation processes as needed. Support other college activities, events, and outreach programs aligned with the career development mission. Participate in professional organizations related to career services. Qualifications Required Education / Experience: Master's Degree in higher education, student affairs, human resources, communications, business, or related fields. At least three years of full-time experience in higher education or a corporate environment focused on employer relations, recruiting, or relationship building. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Understanding of career self-assessment, exploration, and job search methods. Knowledge of industry trends, emerging fields, and economic shifts for effective advising. Ability to develop strategic visions and actionable plans for comprehensive career services. Strong relationship-building skills with students, alumni, faculty, staff, and employers. Creativity and adaptability to meet changing needs. Analytical skills to assess and improve services and demonstrate impact. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with career services management systems like Handshake or Grad Leaders. Knowledge of employment trends, job search strategies, and career development theories. Prior experience in a college career center is preferred. Work Location:

On-site in Knoxville, Tennessee. Salary:

$68,000 - $70,000 starting salary. Application Process:
