The Radio Program Director for WBBB located in Raleigh, NC is responsible for overseeing all on-air content and programming strategies to ensure alignment with the station's brand, audience goals, and business objectives. This role involves managing on-air talent, curating music and content schedules, and coordinating with sales, marketing, and promotions departments to drive ratings and revenue.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Strategy & Programming
Develop and implement programming schedules that align with station format and target demographics. Oversee the selection and rotation of music (for music stations) or content segments (for talk/news stations). Ensure all on-air content complies with FCC regulations and station policies.
Talent Management
Recruit, train, and manage on-air talent, including show hosts, DJs, and producers. Provide regular coaching and feedback to improve on-air performance and audience engagement. Schedule and approve on-air shifts and ensure adequate coverage.
Audience Engagement
Analyze ratings and listener feedback to refine programming decisions. Work closely with promotions and marketing to drive listener engagement across radio, social media, and live events. Monitor competitor stations and industry trends.
Collaboration
Partner with the sales team to align programming with advertiser needs and to develop sponsorship opportunities. Work with engineering and production to ensure broadcast quality and resolve technical issues quickly. Collaborate with digital teams to extend programming onto streaming and digital platforms.
Administrative & Compliance
Maintain accurate program logs, EAS tests, and other required documentation. Monitor music licensing compliance (BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, etc.). Assist with budget planning and manage programming expenses.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in communications, media, journalism, or related field (preferred) 3+ years of experience in radio programming or related roles Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Deep understanding of radio formats, audience analytics (Nielsen, etc.), and FCC guidelines Familiarity with automation systems (e.g., WideOrbit, Zetta, NexGen) and audio editing tools Key Traits: Creative thinker with strong editorial judgment Passionate about audio storytelling and audience connection Able to balance creative goals with business needs Calm under pressure and quick to solve problems All interested applicants please send resume to Jonathan Brewster, Executive Vice President at: jbrewster@curtismedia.com Curtis Media Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
