Public Health Nurse

The Orange County Health Department is accepting applications for a Public Health Nurse in our Communicable Disease section. The work involves serving as the Immunization Program Manager with responsibility for adhering to the scope of work and deliverables for the Health Department's Immunization Action Plan, managing vaccinations at two clinic locations, coordinating educational sessions on new vaccines for nursing staff, administering immunizations to children and adults, and coordinating community vaccination clinics. An employee in this class is charged with protecting public health by preventing the spread of disease, promoting vaccination, and planning for infectious disease emergencies. The communicable disease program includes immunization, refugee health, tuberculosis, and all other reportable communicable diseases. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Health Services Manager and nursing supervision by the Director of Nursing, with leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work and in making decisions. Supervision is not the responsibility of this class. Does related work as required. Our goal is to be a diverse workforce that is representative, at all job levels, of the residents we serve. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing AND one (1) year of professional nursing experience; OR Graduation from an accredited School of Professional Nursing AND one (1) year of professional nursing experience; OR Individuals hired without a BSN will be required to complete the Introduction to the Public Health Nursing course within twelve months of hire.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid, current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver License issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a background check and pre-employment drug testing. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared. May be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the Public Health Nursing Director or Unit Supervisor. All required OCHD immunizations and TB testing prior to employment.
