As a Staff Optical Engineer on Magic Leap's Optical Engineering team, you will work with an experienced cross-functional team to develop and manufacture innovative leading-edge optical components for AR/MR devices. The team features a collaborative and hands-on environment that fosters engineering excellence, creativity, and innovation in the interdisciplinary areas of optical metrology and testing, device fabrication, display technologies, image processing, and color sciences. This role is based at our Boulder, CO office and will require you to come into our office regularly. What you'll do Design, develop, assemble, & measure auxiliary display components related to enhancing the AR display experience. Work within cross functional teams to incorporate auxiliary display components into Magic Leap's existing AR displays. Work closely with vendors to communicate display requirements, areas of improvement, and display troubleshooting. Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders to bridge communication gaps, clarify requirements, identify risks, and support transparent exchange of data. The experience you bring MS degree or higher & 7 years of professional experience in optical engineering, display engineering, or similar field. Experience shepherding devices through iterative stages of design, fabrication, bench assessment/metrology, and field assessment. Experience translating system level performance requirements into component level specifications. Hands-on experience with electro-optical devices. Understanding of optical principles, optical materials, & optical metrology techniques. Hands-on experience with optical metrology tools i.e., spectrophotometers & spectrometers, wavefront sensors. Hands-on experience with display metrology systems and methodologies. Understanding of display timing and temporal artifacts, and equipment required to evaluate temporal performance. Knowledge of overall display quality metrics. Experience working with cross-functional teams and providing leadership and expertise for new projects. Experience with scientific scripting language (Matlab, Python, etc). Excellent communication, presentation, organization, and documentation skills. Working knowledge of optical projection systems. It's exciting if you also have Background in AR display architecture. Experience with digital image processing. Experience in display color science. Knowledge of the human visual system.
