Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in the finance department, responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting practices, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. The Senior Accountant will contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting operations and provide valuable insights to support decision-making. Candidates must be local to the Chicagoland area. Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP. Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes. Support the annual audit process by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.
General Ledger & Reconciliations:
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Perform complex account reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies. Review and approve journal entries, ensuring proper coding and supporting documentation.
Accounts Payable/Receivable Support:
Oversee and review accounts payable and accounts receivable processes as needed. Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and collections. Assist in resolving complex vendor or customer issues.
Compliance & Internal Controls:
Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies, procedures, and controls. Assist in the development and implementation of new accounting policies and procedures. Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations. Stay up-to-date with changes in accounting regulations and best practices.
Fixed Assets:
Manage the fixed asset ledger, including additions, disposals, and depreciation calculations. Perform periodic fixed asset reconciliations.
Payroll:
Assist with payroll processing and related reconciliations (e.g., payroll taxes, benefits). Ensure compliance with payroll regulations.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. CPA or actively pursuing CPA preferred. Experience:
Minimum of 5+ years of progressive accounting experience. Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Experience with financial statement preparation and analysis. Proven experience with general ledger maintenance and account reconciliations.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle). Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, advanced formulas). Experience with financial reporting tools is a plus. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines. High level of integrity and ethical conduct.
