This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Success. The Director will provide strong and innovative leadership to the university's central academic success support unit and will be responsible for the planning, direction, organization, administration, and evaluation of the area. The position will enable the implementation of the area's mission to promote student self-efficacy and lifelong learning by empowering individuals with transformational strategies, resources, and connections that foster critical thinking and metacognitive development to advance student persistence and success. This position will support the Associate Vice President in retention and student success efforts for the university. 30% Programs/Services:
Work in collaboration with university departments, colleges, students, faculty, and staff to foster a student-centered learning environment that promotes student retention, graduation, and student success. Serve as a liaison between campus departments and the area to ensure students are supported in areas of academic difficulty and engagement. Consult with faculty, administrative staff, and students to develop strategies and programming to enhance student learning and persistence at the university. Oversee the implementation of campus-wide academic success initiatives. Collaborate with the Executive Director of Special Populations to plan and execute the academic component of the Pre-Scholars Academy. 25% Finance, Administration, and Supervision:
Provide strong leadership for CAS units, a nationally recognized center of excellence that includes the learning and academic support units, which serve the entire flagship campus and play an instrumental role in university and system retention and graduation outcomes. Oversee the finances of these units and seek out new ways to provide funding through campus collaborations, grant writing, and development efforts. Ensure appropriate staffing for area positions. Offer leadership and support to area staff by providing supervision, guidance, and encouragement for growth through professional development opportunities and annual evaluations of the area's programs and staff. Ensure CAS Learning Specialists are taking accountability for their caseloads by monitoring their students' academic progress and addressing any concerns with strategic communication and programming. 20% Planning, Reporting, and Assessment:
Provide vision and strategic direction for the area and its units to best serve students and the university mission. Prepare CAS reports including donor reports, funding requests, and certifications (LCE, CRLA, Supplemental Instruction), etc. Review qualitative and quantitative data to develop action plans to improve services and feed into strategic planning. Provide reports to university leadership to ascertain learning, academic support, and retention program effectiveness. Provide leadership and support for area staff by offering supervision, guidance, and encouragement of growth through professional development opportunities and annual evaluations of the area's programs and staff. Monitor CAS' impact on Key Predictive Indicators (KPI's) as they pertain to student success and retention. Monitor data on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to ensure that students' needs are being met and use data to drive strategic planning. 20% Communication, Advancement, Research, and Outreach:
Gain recognition for the area by delivering excellent, results-oriented programming through presentations and publications. Continue to challenge the status quo in retention and student learning programming. Provide guidance to student success programs in the state and nationwide on best practices in learning support and student success. Assist the Associate Vice President at the university level in supporting retention, graduation, and learning enhancement efforts. Represent the university in relevant initiatives involving student retention and success at the campus, system, and national levels. 5% Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and seven years of experience in a higher education environment or related field. May substitute for a Master's degree in education or higher education with five years of experience in a higher education environment or related field. May substitute for a Ph.D in Psychology, Education, or Higher Education and 4 years of experience in higher education or related field. LSU values skills, experience, and expertise.
