Huntsville has 3 Police Precincts, approximately 500 sworn officers, 200 civilian personnel and patrols an area around 220 square miles. HPD is a "Professional Law Enforcement Organization" utilizing modern technology, state of the art equipment and comprehensive training techniques. The Department is an internationally accredited law enforcement agency through the "Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement" (CALEA). The Huntsville Police Department employs individuals of diverse backgrounds, education and experience. Candidates for employment are recruited from all areas of the country and from all walks of life. Police Vehicle Support Technician Position Overview: This is administrative and specialized work in the inspection, maintenance and repair of vehicles used in the Police Department. Plans, develops and implements vehicle maintenance programs including preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and repair, vehicle upfitting, and vehicle overhaul. Performs installations and maintenance of public safety emergency vehicle equipment including lighting, sirens, camera systems and radios. Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements: High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and considerable experience in vehicle maintenance and repair or fleet management; or any combination of education, training and experience. Valid driver's license. Must successfully complete a pre-employment supplemental application. Must pass a polygraph examination. Must pass a fingerprint background check.
