The Village of Buffalo Grove is seeking a Management Analyst within the Police Department.

The Village of Buffalo Grove is located thirty-three miles northwest of downtown Chicago and twenty miles north of O’Hare International Airport. Neighboring communities include Arlington Heights, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, and Wheeling. The Buffalo Grove Police Department is currently comprised of 61 sworn police officers, 26 non-sworn (civilian) employees and 9 volunteers. We have been nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) since 1987. This full-time, non-union civilian position reports to the Deputy Chief within the Administration Division of the Police Department. The Management Analyst for the Police Department will be responsible for overall management of CALEA accreditation and department grants, lead ongoing strategic planning efforts, and assist with coordination of all department training. This position will also participate in setting departmental goals and objectives; coordinating and compiling departmental or divisional performance measures, researching best practices and benchmarks, performing trend analyses of operational and financial data, and generating monthly and other statistical progress reports. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Qualified candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Criminal Social Justice, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred), experience performing statistical analysis and research, preferred experience in the law enforcement field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Excellent knowledge of the principles, concepts, methods, and techniques of crime analysis Excellent understanding of the principles of statistics and quantitative analysis, qualitative analysis, and demographic and social variables affecting public safety Ability to collect, conceptualize, analyze, interpret, and prepare police data and utilize this data to evaluate police deployment, responses and problem-solving efforts Demonstrated skills in data analysis, research methods, theory, and statistics, preferably in a law enforcement capacity Ability to conduct research including gathering data, analyzing information, preparing reports, and making formal presentations. Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with all levels of staff, management, agencies, and the general public. Ability to work effectively as a team player, take the initiative, and make constructive recommendations to improve overall departmental efficiency. Ability to multi-task and work under pressure with interruptions and within short timeframes. Ability to handle confidential/sensitive materials professionally. Must have the ability to maintain professional composure and take reasonable action when confronted with difficult situations.
