Manager, Indirect Tax Compliance & Controversy-Carmel, IN (Hybrid)
Allegion is seeking an individual who has enthusiasm for the tax profession who is driven to pursue an amazing career opportunity within our corporate tax department. The Manager, Indirect Tax Compliance & Controversy will work under the direction of the Senior Manager, Indirect Tax. The position coordinates and manages the day-to-day domestic indirect state and local sales and use, property tax and business license tax compliance and controversy matters of Allegion. This position will work closely with the broader Allegion Tax Department, Allegion's Corporate Accounting and Finance function as well as the business units' financial teams. What You Will Do:
Supervise and assist with the preparation and filing of US monthly, quarterly and annual sales and use tax returns Responsible for reviewing and maintaining accurate and complete working papers supporting all returns which includes tax account reconciliations and overall balance sheet account integrity analysis monthly Manage sales and use tax registration process and collection of tax exemption certificates Supervise the preparation and filing of US property tax and business license returns and coordinate with 3rd party tax preparers Lead state and local sales and use, property, and business license audits. This includes supporting protests and appeals, as required, including preparation or review of the company's responses to information data requests and proposed adjustments Research, interpret and apply state and local indirect tax laws Maintain the indirect tax reporting engines (i.e., Avalara and Vertex) Manage statute of limitations and tax filing calendar for all jurisdictions Emphasize and incorporate Sarbanes Oxley processes and procedures into all work products Assist in the analysis of proposed transactions and acquisitions for the purposes of identifying state and local indirect tax consequences Manage the analysis and documentation of tax implications (e.g., nexus rules, impact of tax law changes, etc.) of emerging business issues, technical tax positions taken, and integration of such positions into the compliance and reporting process Serve as a well-respected corporate partner in advising business units and other finance functions on indirect tax matters and/or policy as needed Work with tax and accounting colleagues, outside consultants, and auditors to support indirect tax compliance requirements and special projects Contribute and participate in lean improvement initiatives which contribute to the development of new processes and procedures enhancing the quality and efficiency of the tax department Complete and/or assist with other ad hoc analysis and special projects as needed Mentor and develop the indirect tax department's members while encouraging a teamwork environment What You Will Need to Succeed:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance or another related field required Minimum five years of related tax experience in a large corporate tax environment and/or equivalent public accounting role with experience in the area of sales and use tax, property tax and other indirect tax matters Proficient technology skills in Microsoft Office (emphasis on Excel) coupled by experience with Avalara and/or Vertex compliance solutions and associated products, Alteryx, Power Query, and indirect tax research software General Ledger experience with Hyperion, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, Frontier, QuickBooks and/or other similar ERP and financial reporting systems Experience with indirect tax matters, including audit defense and exemption certificate management Experience with sales tax research, particularly as it relates to manufacturers, contractors, and sales of software/digital goods Experience coaching and developing a team of direct reports Experience with continuous improvement concepts and process re-engineering Strong organization, planning, analytic and project management skills; ability to prioritize tasks for both self and team to meet business requirements and deadlines with a proven track record of meeting assigned deadlines Strong attention to detail and data analysis skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to foster relationships and work in and contribute to a collaborative team environment. CMI, CPA or MST preferred Other Considerations:
