Sr. Real Time Trader/Dispatcher

Location: Houston, TX, US, 77002 Company: NRG Responsibilities: Manage the real-time operations of NRG's asset portfolio. Take or direct timely and appropriate real-time actions. Coordinate unit availability, outage schedules, unit startup and shutdown times. Monitor and ensure ancillary services schedules are met. Communicate operational and emergency conditions with Balancing Authorities. Monitor and analyze available market information. Manage dispatching and trading decisions. Analyze and evaluate energy transactions. Interact with various ISO web-based market tools. Effectively switch between tasks, adapt to shifting priorities. Implement real-time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System. Comply with applicable NERC Reliability Standards and regional ISO rules and tariffs. Complete necessary NERC certification and continuing education requirements. Perform supervisory functions on shift. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in economics, business, finance, or other relevant degree or equivalent military or industry experience. Competence with mathematics and technical concepts. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Proven ability to take appropriate action within time constraints. Capable/proficient with Microsoft Suite and web based environments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team. Applicable experience with any of the following markets: CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, PJM, NYISO, and/or ISONE markets and/or operations. NERC and PJM certification are a plus. If not NERC or PJM certified, candidate must complete certification within 18 months of hire. Candidate must complete the Supervisor desk qualification process prior to first unsupervised shift. Candidates must be qualified for and possess the demonstrated experience, knowledge and skills required for one or more Real-Time Trader/Dispatcher I, II, III positions. Candidates must be able to work a 12-hour shift schedule as part of a 24 hour, 7 days a week operation. Candidates must be able to fulfill storm/event duty requirements requires working during hurricane, winter storms and other possible catastrophic event conditions.
