Overview: The Sr. Manager, Software Development will lead two Agile development pods focused on BAL's proprietary case management system, Cobalt. This leader will oversee a cross-functional team of approximately 1517 professionals, including Tech Leads, Developers, QA Engineers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, and UI/UX Designers. The ideal candidate will embody servant leadershipsetting the tone for delivery speed, quality, and accountability. They will leverage data not only to measure team performance, but also to inform business decisions, prioritize high-impact features, assess system health, and evaluate ROI. Experience with public-facing web applications and generative AI technologies is required, as these are key components of BAL's technology roadmap. While deep technical expertise is not mandatory, the ability to engage in architectural discussions and understand development principles is preferred. This role demands a proactive, accountable leader who can tailor communication to diverse audiences and foster a culture of ownership, urgency, and continuous improvement. Primary Responsibilities: Lead two Agile development pods responsible for enhancing and supporting BAL's case management system, Cobalt. Define and execute a strategic software development roadmap that supports broader business transformation goals, improving efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing service delivery. Set the tone for high-velocity, high-quality delivery and hold teams accountable to performance expectations. Use data and metrics to evaluate team effectiveness, guide decision-making, and drive continuous improvement. Leverage data to prioritize features that deliver the greatest business value, assess system health, and support ROI-based planning. Foster a culture of servant leadership, ownership, and hustle across the pods. Partner with Product Owners and legal stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions. Support production operations and ensure timely resolution of issues related to pod-developed features. Collaborate with Tech Leads on architectural decisions, sprint planning, and backlog grooming. Promote Agile best practices and continuous improvement across the pods. Mentor and develop team members, ensuring career growth and high performance. Coordinate with other IT leaders, including DevOps and Cobalt Support teams, to ensure seamless delivery and deployment. Champion user-centric design and usability in collaboration with UI/UX developers. Lead the integration and application of generative AI technologies into BAL's software solutions. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 7+ years of experience in software development, with 5+ years in a leadership role. Proven experience managing cross-functional Agile teams in a .NET and AWS environment. Experience working with public-facing web applications is preferred. Hands-on experience with generative AI technologies and their application in software development is required. Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, Agile methodologies, and team dynamics. Ability to tailor communication to technical and non-technical audiences. Excellent leadership, organizational, and stakeholder management skills. Demonstrated ability to drive results in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Experience with case management systems or legal technology is a plus. Strong analytical mindset with the ability to use data to guide decisions, prioritize work, measure success, and assess system health. Working Conditions: Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time. Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis. Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, delivering and using the telephone. Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally. Regular and on-time attendance. Must be able to prioritize, schedule and complete testing required for multiple applications with overlapping schedules. A certain degree of creativity and flexibility is required. Hours may exceed 40 hours per week. Occasional travel by conventional means including aircraft, motor vehicle and the like within the region and to other locations as required.
