About the Role The Program Coordinator II - Active Transportation supports the delivery of sustainable transportation education programs. Specifically, this position focuses on biking and pedestrian safety for audiences of diverse ages and backgrounds. Specifically, this position ensures seamless operations and effective programming across multiple geographic areas including North Santa Cruz County, South Santa Cruz County, Monterey County, and the greater San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara Metropolitan Area. What You'll Be Doing Administrative Support Weekly travel between regional offices in Santa Cruz, Watsonville, and Salinas. Prepare and manage in-field materials ahead of programming activities. Manage procurement and inventory of materials and supplies. Perform data entry, maintenance, and analysis tasks. Coordinate and schedule activities with schools and other community partners. Assist in the development of grant reports. Program Support Provide coverage and support when staff are absent or when programs require additional assistance. Lead community engagement events that center equity and accessibility in promoting walking and biking, empowering youth, and families to choose sustainable transportation options. Special Projects Lead the planning and execution of biannual Walk & Roll to School Day events that empower youth to choose active transportation and build a culture of safety, joy, and climate resilience. Support youth and school communities in launching Walking School Bus initiatives that empower students to choose active transportation and strengthen neighborhood connections. Coordinate Earn-A-Bike program participation, including verifying participant eligibility, tracking completion of required workshops or activities, and issuing bike shop vouchers for eligible participants to redeem a bicycle at designated locations in Watsonville. Multiregional Operational Support Spend time at each regional office, fostering strong relationships and understanding local needs. Actively engage with all communities, providing support to all offices and ensuring cohesive operations across regions. What We're Looking For A minimum of 2 years' experience in a youth education or teaching role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be qualifying. Proven experience with community outreach and education. Fluency in Spanish and English required. Preferred Qualifications Experience with project management Experience working in a non-profit setting working with grant funded programs Interest in promoting a clean environment and alternative transportation Minimum of three years of teaching experience in any capacity. Experience coordinating with multiple agencies. Knowledge and Skills Valid California Class C driver's license, a reliable personal vehicle, and current automobile insurance. Ability to instill and nurture enthusiasm in students about biking or walking safely and the benefits of other modes of active transportation. Exceptional classroom management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Ability to work effectively within a team. Ability to maintain a high level of organization and attention to detail. Work Environment The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Regular duties for this position involve sitting, standing, conversing, hearing, and using a computer keyboard and monitor. The work environment is diverse, encompassing an office setting, remote work from home, and fieldwork at schools and community events for planning and executing youth bicycle and pedestrian safety training. Preparation for these training events includes frequent trips to the basement storage unit to load and unload supplies, such as bicycles, helmets, and other materials, into the agency trailer. The employee should be capable of regularly lifting and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds. This position requires travel to various locations as assigned to support all geographic teams. Services areas include, but are not limited to: Santa Cruz County, Monterey County, Cupertino, San Mateo County, and Palo Alto.
