This position is responsible for performing trade-based work involving maintenance and repair of the City's storm drain infrastructure. Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing trade-based work involving maintenance and repair of the City's storm drain infrastructure. In addition, may perform leaf collection and snow and ice removal duties, including varying shift-work. Those assigned to water and sewer crews provide emergency on-call response and repairs to street, water, sewer, storm drain, and storm debris incidents. This position communicates information to a Crew Supervisor. The work contributes directly to the quality of life in the City with serious consequences on the health and well-being of its citizens and is performed under the general managerial direction of a Crew Supervisor. This work can be physically demanding at times. Essential Job Functions

Functions of all Maintenance Worker-Public Worker II Acts as lead person on work details. Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew. Records a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, water supply, consumption, etc. Operates and maintains vehicles and equipment such as, but not limited to, backhoe, frontend loader, skid loader with attachments, dump truck, leaf collection truck, and snow removal equipment. Ensures proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use. Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment and materials. Determines the locations of gas, telephone, underground electrical, television, water, and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation. Responds to complaints regarding streets, storm drains, water leaks, pressure loss, no water, and sewer stoppages; evaluates situations and explains findings to supervisor. May contact residents and business owners in the area where services will be affected. May evaluate situations and report findings to Crew Supervisor. Assists in the set-up of sediment control devices. Follows and enforces required safety practices and uses appropriate traffic safety devices such as cones, arrow boards and traffic warning signs. Also, assists in the installation of trench shoring devices, atmosphere tests, and other confined space entry equipment. Operates and maintains equipment such as, but not limited to, jackhammer, chipper, chain saw, and other hand tools. Responds to routine and after hour emergency calls, including, but not limited to, street, water, sewer, storm drain, and inclement weather events. Performs other duties as required. Functions of Storm Drain Maintenance Operates equipment in the maintenance and repair of the storm drain infrastructure and appurtenances including, but not limited to, vacuum/flusher truck and mini excavator. Operates and prepares leaf collection and snow and ice removal equipment. Forms, pours, repairs, and finishes storm drain structures. Cuts, fits, lays, repairs, taps, cleans, and flushes storm drains, pipes, manholes, inlets, and fittings. Enters confined spaces, such as storm sewer manholes to perform cleaning, maintenance, and repair tasks. Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school degree and two (2) years of progressively responsible work in labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as a part of a crew, or any substantial equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Qualifications: Must possess a valid state commercial driver's license (CDL) with required endorsements. (Maintenance Workers and Traffic Maintenance Works (regardless of level) are required to have a CDL Class A License with the Tanker (N) endorsement). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of general duties, tools, equipment, operation, and practices required in the operation and maintenance of City infrastructure and appurtenances including street, water, sewer, and storm drain operations. Knowledge of occupational hazards, safe workplace practices, and safety precautions for the proper execution and usage of a variety of equipment and power tools. Ability to independently perform manual and trade-based tasks. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to handle and operate light and heavy hand tools and power equipment. Ability to determine electrical, mechanical, and plumbing malfunctions and to make minor repairs on such equipment. Ability to read and interpret written instructions and operation manuals. Ability to read and interpret maps. Ability and willingness to perform other duties as assigned; including, but not limited to, snow removal, storm debris clean-up, and other emergencies at times other than regularly scheduled work hours. Members will have a $130 allowance (in-network) for lenses/frames or contacts. Group Life Insurance The City provides life insurance equal to one and one-half times an employee's base salary. There is no cost to the employee for this benefit. Employees have the option of purchasing additional supplemental life insurance coverage for self, spouse and dependent child(ren). Leave Annual Leave Annual leave ranges from 16 to 23 days per year depending upon the length of service with the City. Leave may be used as it is accrued with the permission of the employee's supervisor. Annual leave is paid at termination after completing six (6) months of service. An employee normally accrues annual leave in the following manner: Holidays Administrative and Police employees generally receive the following eleven (11) holidays per year. This holiday falls on even numbered years. Union employees and certain other employees may receive different holidays in accordance with the terms of a contractual agreement. Sick Leave Sick leave is earned monthly at the rate of 1.25 days per completed month of service. There is no waiting period for using earned sick leave nor is there a limit to the amount of earned sick leave that may be used in connection with any legitimate illness. Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) Dependent Care FSA The Dependent Care FSA allows employees to set aside up to $5,000 on a pre-tax basis for eligible dependent care expenses. Medical FSA The Medical Care FSA allows employees to set aside up to $3,200 on a pre-tax basis for eligible health care expenses. Pre-tax Deductions for Health Insurance Through Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code, pre-tax payroll deductions may be made for the City's health and dental insurance premiums.
