About Community Kitchen’s Pilot Restaurant
The pilot restaurant will serve as a critical step in Community Kitchen’s journey to create scalable solutions for food justice, climate, and public health. The pilot will be a unique non-profit restaurant operation with an emphasis on community engagement and exploration of innovative models of pricing, payment, service, and community-building. Operating for dinner service four days per week, plus private events on most weeks, the pilot will run service July-November 2025 at Lower Eastside Girls Club in New York City.
About the Role
Culinary Operations Team Members are responsible for executing high-quality food preparation while also engaging directly with guests through our hybrid, open-kitchen service model. You'll play an active part in both kitchen production and delivering Community Kitchen’s welcoming, mission-driven service experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and execute menu items with consistency and attention to detail
- Practice safe food handling and uphold DOH and kitchen cleanliness standards
- Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating inventory
- Actively participate in pre-service and post-service setup and breakdown
- Run dishes to tables and engage with guests when needed — describing dishes, sharing ingredient stories, and answering questions
- Greet and welcome guests during open kitchen service, contributing to an atmosphere of openness and warmth
- Collaborate with FOH team to ensure smooth, coordinated service
- Represent Community Kitchen’s values in every interaction — food justice, community, and sustainability
Qualifications
- Professional culinary experience in a detail oriented and fast-paced food environment
- Strong teamwork skills and a flexible, collaborative attitude
- Interest in mission-driven food systems and public service
- Ability to work calmly under pressure and adapt to evolving service needs
- Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs

This is an on-site, temporary, full-time independent contractor role starting as early as August 18th 2025.
