Lazy Bear is looking for a Pastry Chef to join Chef de Cuisine Genoa Pieron as well as Executive Chef/Owner David Barzelay, to lead our pastry program.

They will have an irrepressible interest in advancing the conversation of cuisine on the world stage, as well as a commitment to process, ingredients, and a profound identification with the Lazy Bear food philosophy. They will not be afraid to share their bold ideas, nor to question every aspect of what we do or could do.
The Pastry Chef will command a team of dedicated professionals, and will work in a well-equipped kitchen with substantial resources to acquire whatever additional equipment or materials are necessary to execute their vision. We are open to experienced Pastry Chefs, as well as ambitious and creative up-and-comers.
Job Duties
We are looking for someone who has the ability, dedication, and humility to do any job that is needed in service of the best possible guest experience, but who also has the organization and awareness to know which jobs would be best delegated to others and when. The pastry team led by the Lazy Bear Pastry Chef may be responsible for any or all of the following:
- Creating and executing dessert courses and mignardises frequently centered around nostalgic flavors and incredible Bay Area ingredients, both wild and cultivated.
- Utilizing and contributing to our extensive preservation programs, e.g. with jams, jellies, marmalades, ferments, infusions, and other types of preserves.
- Developing and executing bread for service, to pair with our Lazy Bear butter.
- Maintaining our ten year-old butter culture, and overseeing the weekly butter production.
- Upholding the standards and the culture of Lazy Bear, including by overseeing and guiding our team members, as well as providing respectful discipline when necessary.
- Communicating with potential new pastry team members when hiring is needed, observing stages, and making hiring decisions.
- Managing orders and deliveries relating to the execution of the menu.
- Visiting farmers markets regularly to stay apprised of the quality and availability of ingredients, gain inspiration, and maintain relationships with farmers and purveyors.
- Effectively communicating with all aspects of the management team and members of the Back of House AND Front of House staff in order to facilitate the best experience for our staff and for our guests.
- Maintain professionalism, decorum, and respectful demeanor even in a fast-paced and high-stakes environment.
