The Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance Director in the food industry is responsible for policy creation and implementation of the programs for food safety and to ensure compliance of regulatory standards and 3rd party certifications. This position reports to the General Council. The ideal candidate would be responsible for day-to-day activities related to supporting documentation for vendor approval, FVSP, CFIA Imports, and Item Approvals. Interact with stakeholders seeking support from the food safety department and ensuring the company complies with all regulatory requirements. Stakeholders include external parties such as vendors, customers, regulators, and certifying agencies, as well as internal teams such as buyers, sales, and operations teams. What you'll do: Ensuring that all aspects of the food supply chain, from sourcing to production to distribution, comply with these regulations & standards (e.g. FDA, USDA, CFIA, Food Safety Audit schemes). Overseeing vendor documentation compliance to Kosher, Organic, Certified Gluten Free, Prop 65 and BSE/Non-GMO. Familiar with labeling regulatory requirements in order to provide guidance to private label manufacturers. Familiarity with GS1 standards and barcode labeling a plus. Advising management on decisions impacted by regulations. Manage product documentation & vendor approval teams for currently sold products, new products, and for onboarding new vendors. Sponsor & support internal FSMA 204 project team to ensure regulatory compliance. Support Supplier Management Program through document review and approvals. Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for food safety and quality. Staying up-to-date on relevant food safety regulations and standards (e.g., FDA, USDA, Food Safety Audit standards). Working with various departments, including production, Food Safety & Quality Assurance, and management, to ensure compliance and quality. Collaborating with regulatory agencies and external auditors. Support internal audits, verifying and documenting any quality and/or food safety issues. Lead Corporate Organic Handling Certification Audit, FSVP Inspections, CFIA Imports inspections & support specialty warehouse 3rd party Storage & Distribution certifications. Review and approve corrective actions on all audit and inspection findings. What you'll bring: Bachelor's degree in food science, food technology or related discipline preferred 7+ years of relevant experience within the Food Quality/Safety/Regulatory space (food manufacturing highly preferred) Experience with audit compliance and related audit requirements Experience with Organic, Gluten-Free, Kosher, Non-GMO verified programs highly preferred PCQI/HACCP certified. Additional relevant certifications (e.g. FSVP, SQF, BRC, ) are a plus. Competency with shared folders, along with excellent organizational skills Self-motivated, proactive thinking Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and standards. Excellent organizational and documentation skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in relevant software and systems.
