SUMMARY/SCOPE:

The Assistant Lab Coordinator will provide essentialsupport for the biology and biochemistry labs and assist the lab coordinator inachieving their job functions.

HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Inventory lab supplies and disposable items Inventory chemicals in all labs Assist in coordinating labs with professors Assist in the set up and tear down of labs Assist the lab coordinator in properly disposing of chemical waste Maintain and keep the stock rooms in order Maintain and keep the labs in order Retrieve supplies from the mailroom Move items from stock room to labs and back Assist the biology lab coordinator as needed Assist the biology and biochemistry department head(s) as needed Assist the associate dean as needed Assist the dean as needed Assist all faculty as needed Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills):

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Abilityto read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenanceinstructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees oforganization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts suchas probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solidgeometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions,percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Abilityto solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables insituations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret avariety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

To perform this jobsuccessfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software;Spreadsheet software; Internet software.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college oruniversity required. A degree in chemistry, biology, biomedical science or arelated field is preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position is a Non-Exempt/Hourly Staff position (Part-Time/NoBenefits).

A typicalwork week will be 19 Hours (or less) with approximately 15-19 hours perweek, as needed.

All hours worked beyond 40hours in a single work week will be compensated at time and a half, per FLSAguidelines.

Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver's License andmaintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the university liabilitypolicy.

Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on andoff campus, as needed.

Additionaltravel may be required on occasion in order to attend training, etc.
