General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is seeking an Officer Unarmed PRN to join our team at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. As an Officer I Unarmed, you will ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Your responsibilities include patrolling hospital property, responding to calls for assistance, and reporting conditions or incidents that may impact safety. You will also mentor and train security staff, and may assume a charge role as needed. Officers are vital in our 24/7 environment and may need to work flexible schedules and off-shifts. Additionally, you may obtain and maintain a State of Maryland and/or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department Special Police Officer commission to carry out duties related to crime control and response within the hospital, consistent with the commission's limitations. Respond immediately to emergencies, providing necessary assistance to employees and customers. Conduct security patrols throughout the facility, including campus/grounds patrol via foot, motor vehicle, or bicycle. Control access and inspect packages leaving buildings. Report all safety, security, and law violations. Monitor security and appearance of lobbies, waiting areas, elevators, and entrances. Prepare and submit reports and logs of incidents, investigations, and activities. Maintain department records, reports, and files. Utilize nonviolent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure safety and respect for all onsite. Assist with wayfinding, parking, deliveries, and other hospital-related inquiries. Respond to security and medical code calls. Investigate incidents and accidents, gather evidence, and notify authorities or superiors as needed. Testify at legal proceedings, hearings, and trials. Secure patient valuables and lost-and-found items. Monitor surveillance and security technology systems. Respond appropriately where law enforcement authority is exercised. Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED. 1-2 years of related security, corrections, or law enforcement experience. Experience at MedStar may substitute for direct law enforcement experience. Valid driver's license with endorsement P (Passenger). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Special Police Officer (SPO) certification. IAHSS certification preferred. Minimum Qualifications
This position has a hiring range of $18.33 - $31.61.
