Description
All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, Children's National Policies, and procedures, in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The LPN II will be responsible for providing care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Physician, or Advanced Practice Nurse. Children's National supports the development of the LPN within the community, specifically those relationships associated with the health and wellbeing of the community at large. Qualifications
Minimum Education High School Diploma or GED or equivalent, plus completion of a minimum 1-year vocational/technical training program in a related field. (Required) Minimum Work Experience 1 year related experience (Required) Required Skills/Knowledge Ability to perform technical functions, interact effectively with children and families, and possess good verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates competence in obtaining accurate vital signs, assessments, and documentation of patient care. Must successfully complete the Division of Nursing & Patient Services LPN Medication Administration test and the hospital and nursing orientation. Ability to identify resources, seek help or escalate issues, and recognize self-learning needs. Demonstrates basic knowledge, judgment, and skill in delivering the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, education, and evaluation. If applicable, successfully complete the LPN I role. Required Licenses and Certifications Licensed Practical Nurse upon hire; Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) upon hire. Clinical Process
Differentiate new from long-term problems at admission/visit; conduct patient history; respond to family inquiries; explain information clearly. Accurately measure vital signs, height, weight, head circumference, intake/output. Recognize physical and behavioral changes; perform basic nursing care and therapeutic interventions as per protocol. Respond to alarms, troubleshoot, and recognize signs of deterioration. Collect specimens, pass NG tubes, prepare for monitor setup, and assist with IVs under RN direction. Organizational Process
Follow infection control, emergency, and practice protocols. Complete patient assignments, organize workload collaboratively, and follow physician orders precisely. Transformational Leadership
Orient children and families, reinforce teaching, and escalate patient care concerns. Contribute to Magnet re-designation efforts and ensure accurate handoffs. Structural Empowerment
Refer to physicians and RNs as needed; perform preventive health actions; offer extra attention to isolated children. Complete mandatory education, develop personal goals, and support team members. Exemplary Professional Practice
Document accurately, participate in data collection, and ensure medication safety. Assess, plan, and document patient care proactively, demonstrating clinical competency and caring behaviors. Safety
