They are responsible for performing non-invasive test procedures on patients to evaluate for peripheral vascular disease. The employee functions as a member of the hospital team. They demonstrate clinical proficiency in the care of patients relative to their vascular testing, medical diagnoses, nursing interventions, required vascular assessments, and age-specific requirements. The employee utilizes the technical process, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process, and community resources to plan direct patient care. They demonstrate clinical competency in all modalities of vascular testing. This role requires the employee to adhere to department and hospital-wide policies and procedures during the provision of patient care. They are accountable for improving job knowledge and skills. The employee assesses the patient and performs a vascular history and assessment. They verify the ordered exam and its appropriateness utilizing assessment data and principles of growth and development. The employee establishes and documents vascular technology diagnoses, contributing to the plan of care. They select appropriate equipment for the exam based on patient presentation and the objective of the exam. The employee performs exams according to departmental policies and procedures and the physician's order. This role involves identifying vascular technology interventions based on vascular technology diagnoses. The employee evaluates the patient's vascular morphology and physiology. They recognize and compensate for technical artifacts encountered and maximize the equipment to provide optimal disease identification. The employee collaborates with interdisciplinary services to meet and deliver ongoing patient care needs. They observe and document the patient's response to the exam. Based on exam findings, they recognize, identify, and appropriately document normal and abnormal anatomic structures, physiology, pathology, and pathophysiology. The employee notifies the physician and lead technologist of any adverse changes in the patient's condition or critical disease warranting immediate interventions. Evaluation should include reassessment, modification of vascular diagnoses, revision of the care plan, and collaboration of planning changes with involved health care professionals. They provide appropriate patient health care and public education. The employee maintains knowledge of current vascular diagnostic techniques and meets educational requirements. Competencies include Duplex Imaging, which encompasses LE Venous, I-JE Venous, Carotid Imaging, LE Arterial, I-JE Arterial, and Visceral Vascular Imaging.
