We are looking for a skilled Customs Entry Writer / Import Clerk to manage the customs clearance process for import shipments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and filing customs entries, ensuring compliance with all U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, and coordinating the final delivery of goods. This role is critical to ensuring our clients' shipments clear customs efficiently and without delay.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and electronically file U.S. Customs entries (CF 7501) for various import shipments, including air and ocean freight.
- Ensure all import documents are accurate and complete, including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading (BL), and arrival notices.
- Classify goods according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS).
- Coordinate with and ensure compliance with other government agencies (OGAs) such as the FDA, USDA, and FCC.
- Prepare and file Importer Security Filings (ISF 10+2) accurately and in a timely manner.
- Track and trace shipments, providing regular updates to clients and internal teams.
- Communicate effectively with clients, carriers, customs brokers, and CBP officials to resolve any issues, discrepancies, or customs holds.
- Process payments for duties and taxes to CBP.
- Handle post-entry amendments and other compliance-related tasks as needed.
- Assist with freight forwarding duties, including coordinating final mile delivery and invoicing clients for services rendered.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- A minimum of 2-3 years of direct, hands-on experience preparing and filing U.S. Customs entries within a freight forwarding or customs brokerage environment.
- Proficient knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, HTSUS classification, and import procedures.
- Experience working with an ABI (Automated Broker Interface) system.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A proactive problem-solver with strong analytical abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using the CargoWise One platform is a significant advantage.
- A valid Customs Broker License (CBL) or actively working towards obtaining one.
- Experience handling entries for both air and ocean shipments.
