Position Summary

As an Accounting Assistant at 5Rivers CRE, you will support financial operations across a diversified retail estate portfolio. Youll maintain accurate financial records, manage billing and payments, handle reconciliations, assist in budgeting and reporting, and collaborate with property and operations teams to ensure smooth accounting processes across their seven?state footprint.

Key Responsibilities

  • Record all day-to-day financial transactions in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Yardi, MRI, AppFolio)
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable , including tenant rent and CAM reconciliations, vendor invoices, and investor distributions
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and loan statements monthly
  • Maintain the general ledger and support monthly financial close processes
  • Prepare monthly internal reports and financial statements for management
  • Track property-level income and expenditure categories
  • Coordinate with the asset management/property management team to ensure accurate billing, collections, and lease administration
  • Assist with budget creation and variance tracking
  • Support annual audit and tax preparation efforts
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and CRE-related financial regulations
  • Maintain structured and secure financial records in both digital and physical formats

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance , or related fields (preferred)
  • 3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally in commercial real estate or retail property management
  • Proficiency with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks , Yardi , MRI , or similar
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP , ledger management, and reconciliations
  • Experience handling CAM reconciliations , tenant ledger accounting , and rent billing is a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational and time-management skills

Preferred Skills & Attributes

  • Familiarity with lease structures, tenant ledgers , and lease administration
  • Understanding of retail property operations, including big?box and lifestyle centers
  • Comfort working across multiple entities/properties in various states
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with ability to support cross-functional teams in Houston and other major Sun Belt markets
  • Adaptability to evolving accounting systems and process improvements
