Job Summary
California Institute of Technology seeks a head coach for our men's baseball program. Located in Pasadena, California, Caltech is a leading STEM research institute with 975 undergraduate students and 18 intercollegiate teams in the D3 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Our athletic program is undergoing a transformation with increasing success.
The Head Coach of Baseball is responsible for coaching, recruiting, game scheduling, student development, committee participation, and budget management, ensuring compliance with NCAA D3 and conference rules. The coach will also teach in the physical education curriculum and participate as a member of the college community.
This is a full-time exempt position with excellent benefits, including vacation, retirement, and continuing education support.
Job Duties
- Demonstrate coaching competencies in sport skill instruction, motivation, tactical strategies, and physical training.
- Drive company equipment.
- Uphold high professional standards and ethical behavior, adhering to NCAA, Conference, Institute, and Department of Athletics rules and policies, including sportsmanship and positive leadership.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Design and implement a competitive intercollegiate schedule focusing on student-athlete development and performance, emphasizing conference play.
- Create a team capable of competitive success within SCIAC.
- Recruit, matriculate, retain, and graduate student-athletes capable of attaining their degrees, maintaining an appropriate team roster.
- Engage in recruitment activities such as prospect evaluation, communication, record keeping, hosting visits, and marketing the Institute.
- Support student-athletes' social, emotional, and academic development through guidance, mentoring, and counseling.
- Supervise a part-time assistant coach and volunteers.
- Manage the sport program within operational budgets, including equipment, uniforms, travel, and recruitment.
- Participate in marketing, public relations, outreach, and fundraising activities.
- Develop collaborative relationships with colleagues, administration, and support units.
- Communicate effectively in all job aspects.
- Teach up to one physical education class per term, depending on the season.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned, including facility supervision and maintenance.
- Meet physical demands such as teaching, playing, lifting equipment, and maintaining facilities.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Valid California Driver's License or ability to obtain before hire.
- Organized coaching experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, judgment, and integrity.
- Strong computing skills, including database management, email, and calendar use.
- Ability to teach through physical instruction and technology.
- Passion for personal growth and learning.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move at least 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in a related field, collegiate sports experience, or coaching experience.

Hiring Range: $75,500 - $80,000 Per Year
