Assistant Volleyball Coach
The Assistant Volleyball coach will assist the head coach in the planning and operation of a NCAA Division II (volleyball championship subdivision) program. Assist with the practice and game preparation as assigned; evaluate performances, make recommendations to the head coach regarding individual participation in games.
Job Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate activities through the Head Volleyball Coach.
- Ability to effectively teach fundamentals, position details and strategies of volleyball during preparation and practice sessions.
- Ability to motivate teams to become successful.
- Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
- Ability to travel and recruit student-athletes.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to learn and comply with all policies and regulations of the University, and the NCAA.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to scout opponents
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
All ODU administrators and staff are responsible for understanding the NCAA rules, policies and regulations in the areas of admissions, financial aid, marketing and registration. Not abiding by these rules, policies and regulations or purposely not reporting known violations could possibly lead to termination. Administrators are expected to participate in compliance related education and seminars and be familiar with the policies and procedures within Ohio Dominican University (ODU), Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and NCAA. These responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Attend and participate in rules education meetings and seminars when appropriate
- Attend and participate in all Black & Gold sponsored events, committees and event fundraising when appropriate
- Be provided and understand the Benefits and Awards section of the NCAA manual and the section of the ODU Compliance Manual
- Provide complete and accurate expense reports appropriate for NCAA and GLIAC travel
- Be aware of and monitor NCAA, GMAC and ODU policies and procedures as related to ODU athletic compliance
- Be provided and understand the Compliance Manual, Student-Athlete Handbook and Coach's Handbook
- Be provided and understand all marketing and sponsorship related policies in regards to student-athletes, ODU, GMAC and the NCAA (attached)
A Bachelor's degree in exercise science, sports administration, management, business administration or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Two to three years of experience in coaching and/or playing in the respective sport, ideally at the intercollegiate Division II level. Ability to recruit highly skilled student-athletes. Must be highly motivated with an outstanding work ethic. Knowledge of NCAA rules. Exceptional supervisory and communication skills, along with the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators and the community needed to do the job successfully. Proficiency with MS Office, Word and Excel.
