Position Summary: The Indirect Tax Manager performs a key role in maintaining compliance in all US and Canadian indirect tax requirements. This role manages the business license and sales tax processes to ensure all locations are operating within the legal requirements of State and Federal regulations. This individual contributor role will work under the direction of the VP of Tax.
Responsibilities
- Provides support for compliance for all US indirect tax requirements.
- Maintain monthly tax GL tax account reconciliations, prepare and submit monthly indirect tax journal entry adjustments to accounting.
- The Indirect Tax function utilizes Avalara Sales Tax software and outsources monthly sales tax compliance to Avalara.
- Experience with set up Avalara state sales tax accounts, remote seller, monthly tax return review and filing authorizations.
- Gathers data and preparation of local Business Licenses. Business Licenses are prepared internally.
- Manage sales tax compliance for 46 states and localities, prepare source documents, review returns, and work with outsourced sales tax compliance firms.
- Prepare internally, request data, and file Canadian GST / HST monthly tax returns.
- Provides data to the outsourced personal property tax preparer to file returns.
- Manages the tax payment process to ensure compliance including, collating, scanning, coding, and filing tax payment vouchers.
- Assists VP Tax with seasonal department projects and deadlines.
- Completes and submits all certified mail for the tax department and maintains tracking log.
- Manages tax department administrative requests and queries in a paperless office environment.
- Maintains tax return tracking tools.
- Participates in team meetings and collaborates on projects and/or initiatives designed to streamline firm policies and procedures.
- Other duties assigned including, but not limited to, administrative tasks such as scanning, processing mail, and trips to the Post Office.
- Manage, monitor and reference State Tax Authority website tax accounts to ensure no outstanding balances or unfiled sales tax returns.

You Bring (requirements, preferred skills):
- Bachelors degree in accounting or related field
- Minimum of two (2) years' sales tax experience, preferably in a public accounting firm
- Prior US / Canada sales tax compliance experience required
- Avalara Sales Tax software experience required
- Knowledge of sales tax return reporting of various business types: Wholesale, E-commerce, Retail and Marketplace Facilitator sales
- Working knowledge of Windows Operating systems & Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of JD Edwards GL (Accounting) system and Adobe Acrobat Professional a plus
- Strong attention to detail with accuracy
- Strength in problem solving with critical thinking
- Highly service oriented with cross functional collaboration
- Ability to learn SVP workflow and data management
- Approachable team player with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage stressful situations
- Ability to multi-task and quickly switch priorities when necessary
- Must be organized and efficient
You will need to be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation, including:
- Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, meeting rooms, copier/printer etc as well as have the ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
